g'evening brothers,

just spotted this:
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=237313

holy hell, it's driving me nuts! ... the answers are hilarious.

I'm preparing a little GIF why it's driving me nuts. It's not finished yet, but you may have a look. If you spot any bad English please report it to me, i want to have a 100% correct piece of information - Must be foolproof to be resistant to any attacks. :-)

check: http://smithz.org/x/os-x-blurryhell-beta.gif

all the best,
smithz

Yup! The usual deal. All the responses are of the variety of "Blurry fonts? Why you must be doing something wrong!" And then follows a guessing game about how the victim could have screwed up the perfection that is OS X.

Once again, the product isn't defective. It is the customer that is defective. So, the suggestions all sort of revolve around fixing the customer, his substandard perceptions, his poor choice of monitors, his general computer ignorance. What doesn't need fixing, it seems, are the blurry fonts in OSX. That problem is left out of the guessing game because, I suppose, it doesn't officially exist.

hahaha Smile these helpers are always so open and friendly Wink At first I thought they were lurking around the Mac support forums in order to help people, but it seems that it's way more important to defend Apple than solving problems Roll Eyes The only helpful/honest answer this guy got was the one posted by smithz, he actually dare to mention the real reason - Apple! Eek

life moves pretty fast, I'm not sure I can say that about OSX Smile

Smithz:

It's "blurriness" not "blurryness".

It's "readability" not "readybility".

…that contains text. [Put a period at the end of text. The next sentence is:] That's quite a few elements.

It's "environments" not "enviroments" in the fourth paragraph.

Thanks, B'Brad. Most of them are stupid typos by me. Grammar seems to be ok?

"Example: Various screenshots, Safari used to type in testing-sequences"

That sentence needs a little work, smithz. Perhaps change to:

"Example: Various screenshots of text from a text input field in Safari."

Small point but I would prefer: "Examination results: I don't know why but the OS X [no hyphen…do the same in the first paragraph] font engine and/or the fonts that were used show an inconsistent appearance. The character rendering quality varies from good to mediocre and is never consistently good. [I think that's what you meant by "all the time."] This problem is not a Safari problem. It's an operating system problem. My hardware [?] is not at fault. This simply reflects the current status of anti-aliasing in OS X.

Thanks again, Brad.

I've just updated the file, link (at the top if this thread) stays the same.

And again I've learned something. Saying "My machine is not faulty" isn't correct english... My english is a mixture of learned language in school, lots of english mails and phrases I read here and there. Trying integrate them sometimes end up in a mess Wink

Btw, a "Maxximo" showed up in that MacNN-Thread and fired some harsh words at those poor x-men. Wink I fear they will bash back now.

I'm glad I could help, smithz. I'm still concentrating on learning this one language of English to the best of my ability. I have respect, though, for anyone who tries to manage two.

I'm still going nuts - and I've just sent my little, brave GIF to it's first battleground. I'm sure to have typos and bad grammar in my post on osnews, but Brad really can't spellcheck all my stuff Smile

http://www.osnews.com/comment.php?news_id=9132&offset=30&rows=36

Let's see... Some open-minded folks on osnews agree with me on that font-issue. Then there are these poor Apple-Fanboys telling their "good enough", "never had an issue" stuff...

And now I'm going nuts a little further. Big Grin

Hey Smithz! the desktop screen cut you posted over at MacNN (the font smoothing thread), is that your desktop? if so, then I would very much like to have it - it's plain neat! colors, layout, everything!

Mickey Smile

Err, I'm sorry. It isn't my desktop. It's a linux screenshot (using gnome and a nice theme) from elsewhere. Since I collect useful information about font-rendering I also collect screenshots displaying good or bad rendering. This one is one of the best I know.

good evening brotherhood,

it's frickin' unbelievable, all brothers of thalo.net were accused of "hating" apple. This IS an insult. And sadly, it again shows the typical behaviour of a poor cornerned x-men.

I assume it happened after "SMacTech" wasn't capable of spitting out some logical arguments, so he wrote this:

If you visit thalo.net, you will see where these few new posters here are originating from, and where they have been. You will see their hate for Apple and desire to waste time condescending it even more. What gets me is they actually use OS X, it seems, just for this purpose. It's like bitching about an x-wife or gf, saying how bad she is, then stopping by and see her every night for some lovin'. Only to continue degrading her the next morning.

I just wanted to let you know. Check out link at the top of this thread if interested.

It's so sad.
I was surprised to find one cool guy that stood up for our right to post whatever opinions we have on Apple and their products without having to go through the usual “troll” crap. What a bunch of idiots.

Sad isn't the word for it, mAx. Look at the logic in the comments"

The fonts can't be blurry because the guy who said so posted at thalo.net. So, that proves they are crisp and sharp no matter how they look. Doesn't it?

They're not blurry, you have bad eyes.

Why, you're not praising OS X---You must be a TROLL.

Objective discussion of computer engineering subjects amounts to a personal attack on Apple engineers.

That last one is my personal favorite. The fellow imagines unseen Apple engineers that despite their lack of presence are highly insulted nonetheless and he is empowered to speak for them!

mAx, you think they're "sad?" Well, I guess so, but I got a chuckle or two out of them!

And smithz at MacNN replied: Err, NO, I have to disagree. I don't think that the best solution is a matter of opinion. It's a technical thing that is based on facts.

And here at home smithz said: Let's see... Some open-minded folks on osnews agree with me on that font-issue. Then there are these poor Apple-Fanboys telling their "good enough", "never had an issue" stuff...

There’s something crystal clear to me, and it’s your reasoning skills, smithz.

Some people just hate that. Wink

Well, that's true. Smile It's not the first time I kind of "provoke" somebody to give up searching for arguments and instead starting personal attacks... :-/ wack. I'm always hoping people won't do that, but i rarely find knowledge-ridden objective posters...
