My Sweet Lord, There isa heaven! Brother thalo with his own site, and Brad moderating it! How much better does it get than this?! And, surprise, surprise, Snobby Robby actually being welcomed to an Apple site....by two gurus, to boot! Tears are practically welling as I prepare myself for that distinct sting one gets when mascara start running uncontrollably. (OK, OK, I don't wear mascara......not that anything is wrong with that, of course)

What more can I say in my opening post other than I miss you guys and wish you and your undertaking in this project the very best of luck. It's not only a forum that houses perhaps two of the most genuine, witty, astute and humorous men I've ever encountered as major players, but one where I'm sure an honest opinion will never be frowned upon nor squelched. Equally as important is that "the word" will continue to get out.

It goes without saying the impact you two and brother maX (congrats to you as well!) have made in the community, and to have a venue to express those thought, continue the fight, and have one helluva time doing so, warms the heart. It will be informative and fun, no doubt.

mith, I heard your plea as you were typing it and didn't want to disappoint. Actually, I was waiting for a confimrmation in my e-mail (which I thought was required prior to participating) that never came, but I was able to log in regardless.

I'm blushing, SR. Man, it's good to have you back. I feel like singing "free at last, free at last, thank God we're free at last."

But ladies and gentlemen, don't believe a word this man says. HE was the guy who put the original chops in the ol' OS 9 vs. OS X fight – along with brother Thalo. I 'spect it's that NY influence. Very true in my case. Some few months ago, when I bought my first Mac, I had never even heard of OS 9. Reading the old MacFixit OSX Talk forum has been a joy and has taught me a lot.

And let me know if you want moderator status. I'd be honored to make you one, though none of us is really sure what it means. It might be some flavor of work as things get rolling, but I kinda doubt it. But you do get the keys to the kingdom, anyways.

For any brothers who might be waiting for a confirm e-mail... if the mail didn't come within a minute or so from your registration, something got pooched with the infopop software; or else it didn't make it through a filter somewhere. I also noticed that if you use Mac Mail, you might have to copy and paste the URL into your browser, instead of clicking it. Mail sometimes doesn't like embedded URLs from generated html mails, I ran a test and when I clicked the link, squat happened. Entourage/Outlook yes, Mail no.

Brother Griff, if you're out there: if you're still waiting for an e-mail, don't bother... I manually approved you when I saw you signed up. You're free to post.

I'd have thought that was quite obvious, brother thalo. When things become too calm and settled, their job is to stir things us; sort of the opposite of a typical moderator. A "maderator".

Oh yeah, I nearly laughed up a lung over some of those. And don't forget the haikus, the limericks... and I guarantee you some computer scholar in twenty years is going to write his thesis on analogies using that forum.

Trouble is, some of the best stuff got killed. The Constitution (putting the moderator in the position of having to delete the entire US Constitution was a masterstroke)... some of the best hissy fits, an awful lot of the Snobby Robby opus all gone.

I've been meaning to save some of the classics myself, but I'm too proud to go back there. Maybe before he deletes them for good, Kurt will donate the archives to the Smithsonian.

LOL. I really don't think I could bait you. I'd have to ratchet things up a notch, feign a good amount of righteous indignation, and put on the best acting performance since Meryl Streep boinked the French Lieutenant. But you'd still likely see it coming from a mile away. Still, I think I could pull it off, but it would involve some complicated setup, much like a good practical joke.
