Hello brotherhood,
i just noticed 10.35 is released and checked for some opinions online. It's a sick phenomenon, every OS-X update people say it's more snappy, more responsive, most of the time they say something like: "Don't nail me on this, but if FEELS a bit speedier" and stuff like that. no facts, no benchs.. That tells ME that this OS is still slow and fans need to say that it's gotten faster to hug their souls, otherwise pure anger will take over But it tells the x-fans etc., that apple is soo amazing and always speed up their software. They forgot about the fact, that os-x started as a giant can of slow bloatware and apple's slowly peeling off some stuff from time to time, when they get some attention especially. so, any experiences with 10.35 ? Any user of this wonderful board? best, andi (still snappin' in 9.22) ps. http://www.macinfo.de/bench/macosx.html This message has been edited. Last edited by: smithz, |

I know, it's X-Man syndrome. That total wishful thinking becoming manifest at moments of update. It's been so difficult
for people, uh 'cept us, to FACE the fact that OS X is dog slow, that they'll desperately grasp on to anything. But I hate
to say it, it's all in their head. There ain't no speed increases. If anything, Panther got slower in some rather serious
ways, since Jaggy. Do the math. You can't keep bloating the operating system, journaling the piss out of it, logging every
bogus idiotic moment where the system gets caught off guard, and hope that it's going to be a "snappy" computer for pro use.
You know, servers get "faster" after you rebuild some logs and databases. After you prebind. But like I always say, OS X is a system that DEGRADES WITH USE. It will never run better than the day of a clean install. |

Raouw, I couldn't resist and installed 10.35 and expecting nothing and i got... nothing. It runs exactly as "fast" as before.
Eerrr, at least it didn't became slower. The same with every os-x update.
brrr... |

brother smithz,
it's because they're not fixing what's broke. They're just covering up the original, fundamental mistakes with more distracting nonsense. Well I say, the less interface there is, the less they can hide behind. |

If you had decent hardware to run it on, OS X is just as snappy if not more than OS 9. I don't understand why you guys keep
tearing down the "X-men" time and time again... Is there a point to all this nonsense?

OS X is not snappy. OS X is much, much slower interface-wise than the legacy. I see it every Finder action, from dragging
and scrolling to updating. An old dual 500 G4 runs OS 9 like a champ, and a brand new 17" 1.5Ghz Powerbook with 2GB of RAM
is beachball city. There is no smoothness or responsiveness to Window resizing, scrolling, or routine file managment activities.
OS X routinely chokes, where OS 9 never did.
I'm about to get a dual 2.5 G5 with the huge vid card. I'll see if that improves the situation, and it had better. But look at how much raw computing power it's going to take to drive Aqua properly. THAT'S how bloated OS X is. The interface could be way more minimalist, 2-D, more graphically simpler... and leave some of those gigaflops for my WORK rather than the happy horseshit of Aqua. When it comes down to it, I'd rather have more power and performance than those huge horsey blurry fonts, and gigantic, overdesigned, screen-wasting icons, drop shadows, poorly used transparency effects. |

Cripes on a crutch man.
Then don't fucking use it Kudos for Brad for not using it at all. But I do understand the splinter phenomenon where it's pleasurable to wiggle it semi-enjoyably about while also complaining about the pain. Or maybe it's a canker sore that u nibble on despite knowing it hurts. Thalo the MacOSXchist? Please, switch to XP. I'll buy the PB off ya. -- I do care. I just want to have a beer while I care. |

LOL!
I am a TOTAL MacOSXchist. That's friggin' brilliant. That's exactly what I am. And you know what, I sometimes DON'T use it. Like I say, I often bail into the legacy for a bit of sanity. I'll start running CLASSIC APPS on the PowerBook as much as I can, as almost a lesser-of-two-evils jag. I have XP! You X-Men keep telling me to switch, but I friggin' already have! And it's called OS X! I'm on XP a bit every day, on my new HP WinTel box. It kicks the Mac's ass so bad it makes me insane. I hate the interface every bit as much as I hate OS X? Why? Because some stupid focus group took Windows and reverse-ripped it off. They kinda hammered the NeXT peg into a Windows hole, called it Mac, and that's what we have. Apple CAVED to Windows. So ga head and tell me to switch to XP again. This beast friggin' IS XP... it's the same exact bullshit but with a bouncing friggin' taskbar and supersized eye candy. And yet without good type rendering. What I want, what I need, is a MACINTOSH. Not NeXT, not Windows, Mac. I need an interface that's as good, and hopefully better, than the legacy. Did I get it? BWAHAHAHAA.... yeah right. Not even close. This interface is such a happy horseshit festival that it actually brings tears to my eyes. Switch to Windows. Guess what, my friggin' DOCTOR tells me to switch to Windows too. He says I'm gonna blow an artery unless Apple gets off its ass and stops trying to palm off crap on pro users. Is anyone else already sick of mind metal? I swear, that brushed aluminum texture stimulates the gag reflex. As does the crystal sausage lighting effects and stripes. I want it all gone. I want Apple to START OVER with the interface. I want a monochrome, 2-D minimalist version with a grand total of NO bullshit. I want them to stop yanking me, and start helping me get work done. Aqua has yet to function. I mean, it doesn't even WORK! And nobody notices. The operating system... doesn't even work either. Christ, how BETA does something have to be before people wake the frik up? We've been waiting on simple functionality for YEARS. That's years. There's shit in there that has never been right. Like they just left it hanging and said, oh, we'll get around to it. Round... tuit... hey! I know! Let's create a round eye candy gizmo called a TUIT that blinks and throbs and reminds people not to do anything but drool and giggle! Yeah baby, Macs rule. |

It just sort of worked out that way. Welcome back, John. Why is my inbox not full of semi-nude pictures of Asians age 18 to 24? I am a TOTAL MacOSXchist. That's friggin' brilliant.. You got that right, BT. |

Thanks, better yet, I'm moving to Thailand and have (with luck) a decent job to go to there. Once set up, I can better begin
my photographic explorations.
The trip was too whirlwind to get any real work done as far as my calendar goals. So crash course in Thai language is in the works, plus gearing up to sell, give away, store and/or ship various things I own. Sorry, I only took pics of my fiancé... Good times... -- I do care. Okay, I never know when you’re foolin’ or not. If that’s your fiancé she’s very pretty. If that bloke on the right is you then Charlie Sheen has a twin. Good luck in Thailand. |

Yep that's the little lady and me. All 95 lbs of her.
Thalo, I mailed the skull to you, Undisclosed Location, Cupertino CA -- I do care. I just want to have a beer while I care. |

All 95 lbs of her.
Well, she's pound-for-pound one of the cutest women I've ever seen then. And you're not so bad yourself, Mr. Pitt. Why do I have this picture of JohnQ as playing Mel Gibson in "The Year of Living Dangerously." |

quote: And that's coming from a male model. OK, an UMBRELLA model... but a model. When I founded this place, I really had no idea it would be the stud factory. You prettyboys. 95 pounds? So now you tell me, is less more, or ain't it? What a cutie-pie. But more importantly, can she cook? I'd give my right nut for a couple of those thai fresh springrolls right now, with that honey-chili-peanut dipping sauce. |

You prettyboys.
Ummm…cough…doesn’t one have to be at list a little homo in order to notice whether another guy is good looking or not? Huh? Huh? Nevertheless, I think we can forget about mugs and lenticular knick knacks as a means of making money. It's time for the X-critic/X-Man Calendar 2005. All we need is a reputable photographer and a Photoshop artist who's very good with the airbrush. |

All she can cook is a blazingly hot tom kha gai tomato/shrimp soup. But she wants to take a Thai cooking class soon and I
won't stop her.
I need to shed a few pounds or 30 to get to truly mantacular shape. I did ok with the ladies when I was trying. Too much so. I'm up to 3 women over the years that actually lied to me about their being single just to have sex with me (they were married). That's some serious shit my brothers. I started getting a complex about trusting new women! -- I do care. I just want to have a beer while I care. |
