Hello holy brothers,

this may sound strange, but i failed at setting up my old G4 for filesharing.

Situation: MBP is the main machine. The old G4 (now called G4) is connected via Ethernet. I want to access the HDs in the G4 using filesharing.
It started promising, i activated filesharing, the G4 appeared on the MBP, the "Public"-Folder is accessible, BUT: How can i share whole volumes? The public-folder is nice, but not what i want.
I checked 10.5 (which is running on MBP) and it is possible to drop whole volumes into the "Sharing" prefs-panel. The G4 runs 10.4 and there is no option... Errr... Anybody an idea?

When you are connecting to the G4, you have to be sure you are logging in as a user with full admin privileges. Administrators have access to all volumes. You don't have to add volume names in the shared folders part of the sharing pref pane. Keep that just for your public folders. To be sure I have admin access on remote volumes, I just make the primary admin user and password the same on both machines.

Also check the computer names in the sharing pref pane, make sure they are different.

Then from the Finder's "Go" menu, do "connect to server" and enter the G4's name, it'll look like afp://SmithzG4 or SmithzG4.local
Hit Connect and enter username and pw.

File sharing has to be enabled in the sharing pref pane of both machines.

If you are seeing shared folders, you're mostly there. But you need to be an admin to see the volumes.
