Will someone please tell me how to uninstall 10.4.4 and reinstall 10.4 or where to get
instructions on how to do it?
I'm semi computer illiterate and was told by someone who knows even less about Macs than
I do that with the various problems I'm having I might be better off to switch back to
10.4.
My problem is that they also said it is not easy to do so I should ask a Mac forum for help.

Hi, JEP, and welcome.

I'm not the tech guy to answer your question...but just out of curiosity, how did you find us?
.

JEP it would help to know what type of machine general history i.e. the nature of the problem etc. Tiger is at X.4.5 so there is another software update you could apply. Going back you could use your install CD to do that. I would suggest downloading the combo X.4.5 update from Apple and give that a try.

Though without knowing what the problem is you are having with X.4.4 I would not listen to anything I say.

Welcome, brother JEP! (wow, only 7 more brothers and we'll have a hundred members).

Unfortunately with Mac OS X, uninstalling the operating system usually means RE-installing the operating system, i.e. start completely over... that's usually the path of least resistance.

However, if you describe the trouble, there might be away to avoid having to tear down and rebuild.

Markle,
I followed link Pippa left at Apple discussions to his Hardware Talk SuperDrive problems (Pioneer DVR-103) post here http://thalo.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/45360195/m/4441096161.

RicoX,
QuickSilver 867, 1.5G mem, 116 G hd with 105 G available running 10.4.4. This drive has never had any OS on it besides 10.4 and update. I thought all revisions in every nook and cranny would be taken care of when I installed update combo 10.4.4 from Apple but that is not the case as the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-103 revision is still 1.49 instead of 1.90. Because of that and seeing posts at varous Mac forums about problems with 4.5 update I don't have much faith in going that route.
The problems I am having are the exact same ones that Pippa talked about which is why I followed him here.

thalo,
Yeah, I had read somewhere that it is not a simple matter of just reinstalling 10.4 on top of 10.4.4. In fact it sounded like another horror story. But at that time I was still running 10.2 and it had nothing to do with me so I don't remember much else about was said.
I was hoping things had changed since then, so I wouldn't have to start from scratch, but it doesn't seem to be so.
If I were not semi puter illiterate I would just jump in feet first but I'm afraid I will wind up losing stuff whis is why I'm being such a wuss about this.
At this time the only option, besides buying a new drive or a total OS reinstall, seems to be trying the 1.90 SuperDrive revision and see what happens.
I will check back to see if anyone has come up with a brilliant solution.
Thanks for the suggestions.

JEP it looks like this Pioneer 103 thing has become a trend. Pippa has not gotten back yet with a conclusion. This is a fine line between a hardware/software problem. All the reinstallion of the OS in the world may never get the Pioneer 103 working right again.

You can follow the links from Pippa's post to find relevant firmware updates.

For the headache the superior $52 Pioneer 110 replacement is the ticket. Well spent meantime.

Though the next generation Blu-Ray drives are around the corner. Imagine burning 25GB on one cd. A Dual layer disk will hold 50GB.
