Great photos, i can't pick a fav. Very nice!
The colors are very rich, dunno how to say. Dynamic. Not too strong, just right. All these shots have a certain strong athmosphere.

Thanks, smithz, I love the colors as well. The light was very good.

Should you want to see more of Luik, here's another bunch, 66 photos.

Wow, that "Gänsemarkt shot is amazing. Very evocative. Almost a romantic quality... the Romeo and Juliet of bikes! It says so much just having those bikes facing each other at that distance. Will the star-crossed riders meet?

Also there's definitely a male and a female.

Well done, brother!

Photokina Convention a major trade show for Photography is going on right now in Deutschland. There has been some great new cameras announced like the X100 retro APS-C compact from Fujifilm. That camera looks like a keeper.

Sigma announced a new flagship DSLR the SD1 with a whole new Foveon sensor. One with 15mp per layer so the end file has some 46mp of data to work with. It will be great to see images from this new sensor. I haven't had much opportunity to use my DP2s. I can not find the lenshood for it for starters. I love the files from it the design of the camera itself needs a lot of help. Maybe the next DP Sigmas with this new Foveon sensor will work out the design flaws.

Panasonic also announced new Micro-Four thirds cameras and lenses. The Lumix GH2 has zuster Petra's name written all over it. Swivel screen. Full HD video. Looks like a worthy upgrade.

All the majors released new stuff. I think that Fujifilm X100 is the bomb. That thing is sweet.

Geez, they indeed did go with a classic design with the Fuji.

I even like what appears to be Futura for the overlayed text in the viewfinder.

That is a smart design philosophy Fuji took with the X100. It is very functional. Fuji also does it's own sensors. They have their own specific design features like the pixel sites being honeycombed together or sum such thing. It is just one more thing that makes the X100 compelling that Fuji isn't relying on someone else for the sensor. Their compacts do well in low light high ISO shooting.

Pentax announced their next flagship DSLR the K-5. I will have to start saving up the shekels again.

From the specs sheet on the K-5 it looks like it is a camera after broeder smithz heart.

Interval Shooting:

Capture Interval setting (1 sec. to 24 hours), Start Interval setting (Immediate, designated time), Captures up to 999 images

Yeah, love at first sight. I hope it operates fast, like a DSLR, but typically with compacts there's a lag after taking a picture, isn't there? Even so, I'd want one anyway. Maybe you should treat yourself to one, Rico, after the upcoming Democratic debacle in November.

Broeder yabor that will be the test if the X100 operates with the speed of a DSLR. It is such drag that they can not put a better buffer in those types of cameras to allow faster shot to shot times. It doesn't make any sense to me why they don't. The X100 looks to be very functional though. Straight forward. Optical view finder. I have the optical viewfinder for the DP2s that attaches to the hot shoe. I do prefer it to the LCD which is crap on the DP2s. Now to see if Sigma releases a compact with their new Foveon sensor. I have a feeling it is going to produce stellar images.

Broeder smithz the K-5 interval shooting also goes up to 999 images too. The K-7 only did 99. The body ergonomics in my opinion is the best on the market. It has a great 100% viewfinder as well. Nice for all the legacy Pentax lenses which have compatibility with their DSLR's. That is fifty years of lenses. Many can be found for less than $100. Yabor should find one of Pentax's screw mount Takumar 28mm f3.5 lenses to go with his 5D. The Takumar 50mm f1.4 are great too. The Tak 55mm f1.8 is also exceptional.

Yeah, this is nitpicking, but the K-5 IMHO needs a swivel/tiltable LCD. :-) Otherwise a really nice camera, not cheap though. The option to use all these old lenses is really excellent. Canon can't compete here at all.

Broeder Rico, do you know what classic movie this image is from? I just now watched it, saw it before when a teenager: first time I heard Bach (BWV 639-- the most beautiful piece of music in the world, perhaps) , which was overwhelming. A film with Bach and Breugel in it, not bad eh? And it is indeed a beautiful film, extremely lovely images, and good acting too. 639 again, another recording I like.

The film is of course Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972)--Why "The Fall of Icarus" right between the Seasons? Simply a mistake by Tarkovsky? That would be a shame. I hope there was an idea behind it. --Winter/Hunters in the Snow is to me the most beautiful painting in he world.

Broeder yabor I have never seen that movie but it sounds familiar.

The one thing I can think of on why the Breugel "Fall of Icarus" was used between the seasons is that I believe one of the seasons paintings by Breugel is missing. I am not completely certain but pretty sure.

I will have to look for "Solaris". I love Bach too. He set the gold standard in music.

Yes smithz people have asked for a swivel tilt screen for the K-7/K-5. The screen they use has great resolution plus it has great angle of view for a none swivel/tilt screen. The K-5 really isn't a swivel/tilt kind of model. I think Sony and Nikon have DSLR's that are marketed for the swivel/tilt screens. I use live view with my K-7 for overhead shots a lot and never felt like I needed a swivel/tilt screen. I can see it's usefulness for low to the ground shots though. I use my mini tripod in those situations. Pentax's prices usually come down under $1,000(US) after a couple of months. The K-5 has a feature set that is as good and better than Nikon and Canon's mid-range pro-summer camera's like the Nikon D300s and Canon 7D. Those camera's cost upwards of $500(US) more than the K-5. Or at least they did at one point.

Nothing beats the old manual focus lenses.
