This made me feel a bit better. I know his working style may be strange, but i really LIKE the approach that the results are speaking for themselves, who cares about the latest updates. Just USE your existing software.

Thanks in part to YouTube, author and illustrator Bob Staake gives the world an inside look at how he goes about creating his one-of-a-kind illustrations. Believe it or not, Bob creates all of his digital work in Adobe Photoshop 3.0… with a mouse… all on one layer!

Very cool, although you'd think he could do it in about 1/3 the time in Illustrator and with a lot more control over undos or revisions, not to mention resolution-independence. I'd hate to do all that work and then find out someone also wanted to make a poster out of it.

Exactly! But anyway, i dig this. There is this very special way of using a tool, which seem to be integrated into his thinking already. This is great. Yeah, it's not resolution independent, wtf. I am not sure if he could do it in 1/3 the time in crappustrator. Illu is so mighty but IMHO also slow and annoying.

Yeah, he would have undos and all that. BUT i think all these safety-features let you work in another way. Imagine circus artist, they have to do it live without a net. The same goes for Quark4. No real undos, just barely one undo - if any. Well, he's quite comfortable with his working style, so why change. Big Grin Omg, i sound like an old grumpy greybeard.

Now playing: The Ramones - It's alive

Yeah, it is great. I was just telling someone the other day that if you at least had version 4 of Photoshop, you were good to go. Most of the basic stuff is there. A lot of the other stuff is just automating steps you could do yourself…if you had an imagination like this guy.

BUT i think all these safety-features let you work in another way. Imagine circus artist, they have to do it live without a net.

LOL. You're probably right. I'm just a hack when it comes to Photoshop, but there are some people who really know how to work it.

The Ramones rule. I'm not sure what they rule. But they do rule.

If I go to iTunes and look at my top 25 most played, it's mostly selections from the Ramones' "It's Alive" in all the top spots...

with Courtney Love songs, the Cult, and a few others filling out the rest.

Here's the play count on my end:

"Hey Sandy" by Polaris: 12 times (basically that's the intro music, a la "The Tonight Show", that I play for one of my nephews when he enters the room. I get eyerolls for that, you betcha.)
"The First Noel" with Bing Crosby: 10 times
"The Nomi Song" by Klaus Nomi: 9 times
"Jingle Bells" with Bing Crosby: 9 times
"It Hasn't Happened Yet" by Bill Shatner: 8 times
"Common People" by Bill Shatner: 7 times

I don't have the version of Photoshop that has the warp tool in it. That was new to me, although I've got it in Illustrator (where it first appeared, I think -- maybe not, but it looks a lot like gradient mesh). That's a different way to learn Photoshop techniques, but a pretty fun one.
