Here's a couple I can't friggin' stand... Just doing simple conversions from Orifice Word docs to PDFs using the pdf button in the toolbar. The first bug is the PDF toolbar itself on a cinema display. All those toolbars should go across the top. As many times as I drag the little pdf toolbar up into the space where it fits, it never stays put.
OK, anyway, I'm converting some docs to PDFs. I get a small Aqua window with an old school microsoftian progress bar. When the process is done, there's buttons to press "View Document" or "Done"... no buttons work. You can click 'em til you're Aqua in the face. Nah-ah, you have to click on the desktop or some other App, then click BACK on Word, THEN click the buttons for them to work.
I've not used that function, so this may not be correct, but wouldn't the print dialog's PDF function do the same thing? Less dialogs and crap to deal with...
Yes it would, except you have to go through the added step of changing your printer. I can envision a scenario in the preemptive multitasking world where I'd want to print a hard proof for in-house, while also generating a PDF for transmission.
Okay, I’m trying to install OS X "Tiger" (ER) and I assume the process is the same: hold down the "C" key while booting from the Tiger (ER) DVD. Okay, I can do that…to a point. I key getting a "Hold down the power button or hit restart". I’ve gotten as far as the first dialog box where I choose my language before this screen pops up. What gives do you suppose?

Thalo, cover your eyes. The following is a quote from an MFI report:
quote:
Possible fix for some SCSI-related problems As noted over the past few days, Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) appears to have some serious issues with SCSI expansion cards and drives in some system configurations. In some cases, the presence of certain SCSI PCI cards can cause kernel panics, startup problems, and other issues.
Removing these cards (particularly some widely used SCSI expansion cards from Adaptec) has resolved issues for a number of readers.
Now Eric Wright reports that, in his case, removing the following kernel extensions from the /System/Library/Extensions folder resolved issues with his Adaptec card:
I’m having what I think are kernel panics when just trying to install Tiger on my G4 which has an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card installed. In this case, though, I’m installing Tiger on a partition that has no previous installation of OS X. That is, I’m leaving Panther intact on another partition and clean-installing Tiger. So could just the presence of that 2906 card be a problem?

Okay, thanks to some hints from (cover your ears, thalo) MacFixIt's forums, I was able to install and boot into Tiger (ER) by unplugging the SCSI cable from the back of the computer. I left the Adaptec 2906 card installed however. The next test will be to shut down, plug back in the SCSI and see what happens. I expect it will crash.

Okay, I plugged the SCSI chain back into the computer and it seems to work. If I start to get kernel panics then I'll likely know what is causing them (besides OS X and Unix, of course).

Agreed, brother Markle. Well lampooned. But somehow by simply unplugging the SCSI cable from the back of the computer I was able to install. Then I plugged it back in and SCSI seems to be working fine. Go figure.
