Okay, I think we can call this retro gaming. I got an Xbox (the original one) the other day at a garage sale. It was almost new. I know the neighbor and she said it was used about five or six times. It came with about 9 games, themselves probably worth at least $50.00, if not more. I got the whole thing (and two controllers) for $24.00.

Let me first state, I hate those controllers. BBB (brothel's youngest kid) has little problem with them. But it's hell for me to use to thumbsticks to try to move a guy in 3D while shooting. I believe the entire culture has simply crapsettled and I can't find much of a mention of this problem.

It doesn't really matter. The only kinds of games I wanted to play are racing games not Halo or Call of Duty. And three different racing games came with the unit. Brothel also had about four games already in his collection which he loaned me.

And some of these games look great. But most of them suffer from totally unrealistic physics (and I'm not talking about the strictly "arcade" style racing games). So many of these games are so sensitive when it comes to the joystick. I don't know about you, but when I'm going down the highway at 70mph, if I simply move the steering wheel barely right, I don't go careening out of control.

Fortunately I did stumble across one sane game. It plays well, looks fantastic, and has lots of options. It's called "Project Gotham Racing 2." If you have an X-box, this is the one to get if you want to race.

That is a good find. The games must look great on the LCD TV. I would have to get Halo for it. I think I have burned out my video card playing Unreal Tournament. It is rather sad as it is a kick ass video card. In dark areas I get all kinds of green fractals happening. The card does it all the time. Especially when it gets to hot in the room.

Yes, it looks good on the HDTV, Rico. It’s nice, too, that you get the games in widescreen.

With the Xbox 360 you will get 1080p. And then I hear they’re really amazing looking. I just bought for $5.00 (including shipping) Project Gotham Racing 3 for the Xbox 360. Older nephew has that system. I’ll let you know as soon as I get a chance to test it.

BN, congrats to your oldskool bargain gaming rig.
If you run into an old "Burnout" Game for the xbox, you should give it a try. Maximum crash physics at 60fps, very nice IMHO. Excellent are Burnout Takedown and Burnout Revenge, the older ones are okay too.

Bruder Herr Smithz, my younger brothel has Burnout3. It’s an excellent game. I find it difficult to control though. But it’s a really fun crash-‘em-up mayhem game. He’s also got Flatout and Flatout 2 which are similar types of “arcade” racing where you can have a lot of fun crashing things. There’s even a series of novel games in Flatout 2. In one of them you launch yourself out of the front of the windshield and try to hit the bullseye on a giant dart board. In another one you do the same thing to ten bowling pins.
