Using Go Live if you loose the data on your machine for a website is there a way to download the data from the remote site to get it back. Someone I know was maintaining a website and IT came in to update her machine. They earased the contents of her HD to do so wiping out all her data. Naturally she had no back up.

Absolutely. I mean, there are gonna be certain GoLive site files that will need to be regenerated (including the ones CALLED "data", settings, etc.)... but if the remote site is OK, you basically just copy it back over. I've done this many times before, and if I don't have an existing site locator file backed up (.aglsl -- lets you do what you are about to do easier) here's how I usually do it: 1) I create a local folder named more or less the same thing as the remote site folder. 2) From GoLive, I create a new site, either a "blank site" (if you use and like the structure of that), or else I make one "from existing content"... I point GoLive to the folder I created. It's empty, but hey. 3) I save it, then go to the site settings dialog, Hit "Publish Server" on the left column and enter the info of the remote (Publish) server. Hit OK. 4) Connect to the publish server, and copy all the files over. You will have a problem replacing the home page ("index.html"), so you have to do a workaround: 5)after downloading all the files except index.html, you drag index.html to your desktop, and just replace it the folder using the Finder. Hit refresh in the GoLive site window. Save. done.
