OK, I must admit, I love the icon. A flaming fox dry-humping the earth. There's something both sinister and comical about that. But faster? Better? So far no. I'm in it now and just typing in this text field the cursor is way off, offset by a letter space or more, and typing seems to confuse Quartz. Feels buggy right off the bat. So come on, all those exhortations to dump IE? Ya think maybe people are so desperate for alternatives, they throw in behind anything opensource? Trouble is, the geek aristocracy has let me down time and time again.

I'm liking Firefox so far; it does feel a bit perkier than Safari, but it does peg the CPU occasionally. I'm not having any typing issues in composing this message as you've described, and I'm typing quickly. The UI widgets are PC ugly, but I ran a thing called Firefoxy that replaces them with slightly better ones.

I have a question about Java. As I understand it Safari is the only browser that actually can use the latest Java 1.4.2. For browsers such as Firefox Mozilla and Camino to access Java you must add this Java Embedding Plugin. My question I guess is how does Java or the lack of Java if you do not install the above plugin effect how well a browser functions.

Hmmm, interesting. I didn't manually install any plugin, Firefox would have had to do that in its install process. I just find the browser dog slow, unable to parse certain sites, and buggy with text entry on this site. I suppose that the java issue could be it. That one tends to throw a lot of browsers.

Brother thalo That is just it. Firefox and Mozilla do not actually install anything for them to access Java 1.4.2. If you do not manually install the plugin I linked Firefox and Mozilla can not communicate with Java 1.4.2. I am not sure what goes on in the background with surfing the web and Java 1.4.2. If it is even a factor at all. But without manually adding the plugin browsers such as Firefox and Mozilla can not use Java 1.4.2. I installed Firefox but have not really put it to any test. My default browser is still Camino. Firefox at first glance is laid out very similar to Camino. Safari is the only browser that has native support in X to access Java 1.4.2. Then again to change what your default browser is you must open Safari and change it thru Safari's preferences. To change what default mail clinet is done thru Mail's preferences. This has embedded systems settings within software applications.

Firefox on Win XP is quite impressive. On the Mac, I'm not so sure that the application sucks as much as the operating system it's expected to run on.

Oh. my. god. Did anyone hear what brother Snobby said? I looked at the post and it was like: "Snobby Robby"... then the rest was like the teacher voices of Charlie Brown cartoons. Holy Crap, great to see you SR!
