I am not sure when this took place but the web browser Mozilla is now called SeaMonkey
I can not imagine the meeting were a consensus was established to go with SeaMonkey. At least it shows some activity going on. Now all they have to do is fix the File menu. |

Yes, and I'm working on an add-on utility called "Spank."

Brother Rico, this took place when Firefox became popular. The Mozilla Suite was officially dropped by the Mozilla-Team and some volunteer coders took the ball with seamonkey right there because they still wanted to have the complete suite, one of the benefits of open-source. Happy Xmas! |

Wow, it's as disappointing as REAL sea monkeys were when I was a kid.

Yep, because the Seamonkey tries to swim in AQUA.

Funny thing is SeaMonkey is the only browser worth using for me. As far as I know it is the last browser left that function's like the old NetScape Navigator. Here I can feel for the 9er's.
If the new SeaMonkey team decide for "modern" users they need to chuck session history under the Go menu I will have to stop using the internet. For now I have to use a browser called SeaMonkey. Brother Smithz two questions/answers first it looks like SeaMonkey came to life officially November 8th, 2006. At least it slipped by me fairly recently. If these knuckle heads had the option of using the name Navigator but didn't is a bad sign. Second (which maybe Brother Klappy may have a better idea) how hard would it be to create a build of Camino. When the programmers turned off session history in the Go menu they said to just create my own branch that maintain's it as though it can been done in your sleep. I haven't a clue were to even begin. It could become thalo.net's official browser. |

Needs a redesign.
The interface still looks like either old Netscape, or New Netscape, both of which gave me chest pains. And it's gotta get the award for the crappiest logo I've ever seen. When you see it small, or from a distance, it looks like some iconic peace dove, or bluebird of happiness. You have to see it magnified to realize it's a friggin' brine shrimp. The old retro cartoon Sea Monkeys (with their little crowns, immortalized by comic book artist Joe Orlando) would have been much cooler. Although it should be noted that there's a stigma associated with the Seamonkeys' original creator and marketer, Harold von Braunhut. The guy was a reported extreme right wing nutjob, klansman, and Aryan Nation member. I don't think the mozilla guys did enough research before choosing that stupid name, so enamored are they with the idea of sprinkling water on something and having it spring to life, which in this age of the work in progress is all open source guys do anyway. Nobody really crafts and works on software enough. They simply mess with it from time to time, and hope it'll take off and live with a minimal amount of care. |

Yes SeaMonkey is the old Netscape.
What I had in mind was taking a build of Camino to rework the Gecko part. So far it looks like I need to install Xcode. Check. Hey there is an app from the Xcode install called Interface Builder. This should be easy. Oh Nuts. The Xcode app itself is one that when launched there is no UI window other than what is in the menubar. That does not look promising. |

You can still run Netscape7 in Classic (or sheepshaver on Intel)... EEEEeeeeeek!
Back in the day i also liked the concept of having browser and mailer in one app. Nowadays i would still like it if it was a bit more zippy ("Ohw, it's a bit more snappy, trust me!"). Besides that, that crappy Composer ist just a waste of mbytes. But after i discovered the "attachement-folder"-feature of Eudora i simply refused to use any other mail-program. Another browser that is offering a similar thing like Seamonkey is Opera. Mailer+Browser+chat+x in one. Maybe give it a try? Pretty fast, too. And allows visual theming, makes less fx UI possible: (Now listening to James Brown - R.I.P.) Update: Argh, forget it... No, OS X never crashes, it's just the apps that are quit-happy... Okay so how hard should it be to recompile an earlier release to form a branch. As hard as the programmers want it to be. There is a whole page of loops and hoops to jump thru to get it done. Could someone just have made a script to get it all done easily. Instead of use this link for that download this package. What I want is just a simple page that you just dial in the flavor you want say Camino 0.8.3 click the compile button and poof your done. Know that would be to easy.
Smithz I liked Camino because it was only a browser. I have always used Outlook for mail then Mail for mail. This programming is for the birds. |

Brother Rico,
I think I've read correctly, you already asked the developers for re-integrating session history into go-menu. Maybe post something here http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=12 and ask for help regarding a custom build? Have a good slide into '07! |

Thanks smithz
I posted there in the past when Tiger rolled out. That is when the Go menu session history was broken. At first I assumed it was just a bug. When I asked about fixing it I was greeted with pitchforks and clubs. Glückliches Neues Jahr Prost! |

I'd love a friggin' Mac browser that works with Yahoo video. I get most of my news there, but whenever I go to click a video link, most of my browsers can't handle it. And I know I have all the latest plugins and players installed.
On the PC, these videos come up bing bang boom... on the Mac there's always an issue. Firefox is OK, but slow to load. Safari, forget it... and this Sea Monkey just gives me a blank window. If I hit refresh a few times, I get the graphics... but the videos never seem to start. |

Brother thalo I have the same experience. I think it has to do with the ad blocking. What happens to me is the window opens fine but all that plays is the ad from the window on the right hand side. The news feed never starts. It seems like the ad is not being handled properly causing the stream to stop. Firefox works. The News stream does start playing.
The new window that pops open to play the video feeds is this a Java function? Did you install this Java Embedding Plugin? |

I thought that plugin came with.
If it's a later version, I don't have the slightest idea how to install it based on all that arcane gearhead BS that came in the archive. |

Brother thalo the files(JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle and MRJPlugin.plugin) in the Bianaries folder need to be copied into the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder. The files immediately in the Bianaries folder are Universal Bianary the ones in the ppc subfolder are for use with older versions of mozilla etc so they can be ignored.
Then:
These files are in SeaMonkey/Camino/Firefox' package contents. If you option or control click (right click for 2 button mouse) on one of these applications the drop down gives you the option to view the package contents. The bits and peices to each app. These files are found in the Contents/MacOS/plugins folder. The ones installed for me were versions 0.9.5+g+2. The latest download is 0.9.6 so they are very current. I have no idea what or how any of this makes a difference. I tried running SeaMonkey with/without these files in it's package contents without any change in how it runs. I even removed them altogether even from the Library/Internet Plugins folder without any change I could see. The problem with Yahoo vidoe streams is most likely poor programming. They do not bother to write the code to work on any platform other than windows. Firefox is a browser being coded for and probably by Windows users so it has a better chance of working. Which it does. So far I have been able to recompile Camino (not the version I want) only with a failure with some thirty errors. I don't think much thought has gone into programming. It is all much harder than it needs to be. |

BrineShrimp has been up dated to version 1.1. Holly mackerel version 1.1.1 is already up.
I think it has brought the responsiveness of Firefox. Plus built in spell checking which was a welcomed bonus. Well worth the download. |

Oh. I see that they have SeaMonkey for Windows. I'll give it a try. Have they discontinue Firefox, changed the name, or is this in addition to Firefox?

Firefox is still the Mozilla organization's flagship product. They just have SeaMonkey for old Mozilla diehards. Personally, I hate XUL apps for the same reason I hate Java apps: nonstandard cross-platform interfaces are simply a pain to use. Unfortunately, Mozilla 1.3 is the only decent browser remaining for Mac OS 9. |

Thanks for the explanation, ianj. I downloaded it last night and I'll give it a try later. I like the version of Firefox that I have right now for the PC. I think it's the latest version. But what I absolutely require from a browser is to be able to increase the font sizes easily and quickly and without doing something funky (like Opera seems to limit you to) which is just magnifying the whole page. I do a lot of reading of articles and stuff on the internet and with the hi-res LCD that I have at home (a beauty...I highly recommend the Samsung 203B 20"...I got it for a steal at Office Depot a while back....$229.00) you need to be able to increase the font sizes. Firefox does this well.
