Well, it's about time. The crystal sausage is history, my brothers. Score one for us.
I just downloaded the new iTunes, and I guess this is a preview of interface changes to come. The new scrollbars are less "aqua", shallower, not as over-rendered, just a simple gradation. MUCH better. Much less distracting. The rounded edges on the windows have a smaller radius, and I think that looks better too. No brushed metal, just a platinum gradation. Also an improvement. |

Apple is definitely browsing thalo.net.
Even the highlight color is black with the letters dropping out white in the sidebar. The extra view options were over due. The album artwork makes sense with a view option that actually allows you to see the covers while browsing your catalogue. I think before you could only see the artwork if you did a get info for each song. I am no iTunes aficionado so I could be wrong. The new scroll bars did not make over to Quicktime. At least not in the Quicktime open dialogue window. |

I also don't hate the use of BLACK in the movie/vid catalog environment background. I mean, the reflected gradation at the bottom of each item is a little much, but there is definitely more CONTRAST coming back to the interface, where the stuff is showing up as more important than the interface itself, which is something I've been harping on for forever. Focus and contrast.
Aqua was more about selling itself. Now, Apple finally got it that the stuff they're SELLING is more important to show clearly and make more accessible than the stupid candy ass interface. Now, I notice they couldn't resist adding some "shine" and plasticity to things, there's still too many visual states that could be streamlined... but it's getting much better. Just a few tweaks to the interface, and the whole thing feels more organized. Now, who do I have to blow to get them to forever kill the stupid stripes and transparencies in the menus? |

Oh, come on brother thalo. When doing interface design though a random number generator, once in a while they'll hit on something you dig. No reason to start singing the praise of Apple again. What an Apple-whore you are. Disgusting. |

:-( It's frustrating to see Apple slowly CRAWLING back to a more plain Interface. Each release one micro-step, which is IMHO half-assed. Is there ANY unified UI-Concept at Apple? I highly doubt that. Yes, i do prefer the more flat looking scrollbars, but wtf. They IMHO look plump. Apple just stick to the Aqua-Shapes but changed the inner fillings. Great. Again, every friggin element is filled with a gradient. Good UI-Design does not need gradients everyfuckinwhere. This is just cheese. I guess in 6 Years they will be finally reaching plain flat 2D and sell it like the invention of the wheel 2.0 ... Yes, I'm glad they removed the stupid gloss effect in the itunes status-display. No, i am not happy they have inserted gloss effect into the black selection thing. And: iTunes became slower again... No, i don't have an intel-mac. Window resizing is extremely choppy now. What's your experience? This message has been edited. Last edited by: smithz, |

Smithz window resizeing is not choppy on my MDD machine. That is with the Radeon 9000 64mb card that came with the machine. I bought a Radeon 9800 just to get the turd splash but it is not working in this MDD. I keep getting kernal panics that involve quicktime when it is installed. It is either a bad video card or this MDD is in worse shape than a first thought. I just hope it lasts.
Photokina is right around the corner. Leica just released new digitals. Sigma has a new camera on the bench as well. This MDD better last as it looks like I will be spending what money I have in a different direction. |

There's definitely more of a lag in the iTunes window, than some others. I can get the cursor a good three or four inches off the resize widget.
It's a function of whether or not the contents dynamically resize. I still hate when the cursor comes off the resize widget. I mean that's still an interface unforgivable to me. |

Try turning down your mouse tracking speed.

Har de har har... except that doesn't do anything for the lag on window resizing. I can turn it all the way down and still outmouse OS X.

I still prefer that non-realtime resizing (i think it works this way on non-quartz-extreme macs) ... My slow ibook behaves this way. You only resize an outline, which is non-laggy.

If the real-time resizing was as responsive as the outline, I'd prefer that. Otherwise, I'll take the outline. But shouldn't we have a choice? One checkbox in the "appearance" control pane? Window resizing: Use outlines.

<giggle>... CHOICE? ... this word does not exist at apple. Accept it the Apple way or die! |

Yeah, what was I thinking? Although I did have hope that things can change, when I saw Steve give that last keynote in a black shirt that WASN'T a mock turtleneck. It was like seeing bizarro-Steve.

ps. We have a really warm late-summer over here, some kind of comeback of nice warm weather. Maybe it's the same in SF ? |

yeah, well then you'd expect him to wear a light colored shirt... maybe short sleeves. But he so rarely departs from his uniform: jeans and the black mock turtleneck.
He's as wed to his uniform as Apple is to Aqua. So when I saw him deviate slightly, it gave me a little bit of hope, lol. |
