That is a tad cluttered looking, isn't it. And yet some of the concepts seem sound. I really wouldn't mind, say, a folder or file being automatically tinted with color to show it contained, or was, a file that had been changed today.

yeah baby,
though I'm torn. The IDEA and the INTENT behind this "tactile interrogator" (great BSDM porno title) addresses some of the key concerns I have with OS X, and yet it comes off as a geek parody/nightmare vision of the legacy. I totally agree with their press release, however, when they say the following: quote: and this... quote:basically admits the truth: that the eye candy Finder IS consumer-oriented, not for pro users. The X-Finder IS "kid stuff." That's what I've been saying all along. Platinum was mature, well-conceived, a simple but elegant solution. It's clear that the very eye candy that makes the UI appealing to newbies and digikids, succeeds in destroying the traditional Mac ease-of-use intuitiveness. What we have now is a disjointed mess... a polarized, self-competing interface whose exterior facade is designed for commercial appeal, while its unix underpinnings are geek-friendly. But friendlier if you totally disdain the GUI altogether. The legacy Mac was a meeting of worlds. The user interface was simple and engaging, but powerful and sophisticated. Customizable for fun, but more importantly for productivity. With OS X, you quickly realize that if you want to use the "real" computer, you have to abandon the part of it that was designed for retards and chimps. Namely the GUI. That, to me, is anti-mac. It runs contrary to the the very ideas that made me a Mac person. |

quote: Setting aside aesthetic issues (while acknowledging their importance in terms of both ease-of-use and performance), and while also acknowledging that the Finder was quite advanced for its time (and thus inserting the appropriate “don’t get me wrong’s” – and a few “Hail Mary’s to boot), and finally, while also acknowledging that there is such thing as too many options, I think what schneb says over at OS X Hints is right on the money: quote: You remember OS X Hints, don’t you thalo? It’s that site (which has become a quite useful and popular one) that features: Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. Phil and Sparky and Craig and Griff. LOL!
But who's Sparky? Ohhhh, yeah, you mean PIGGY. I re-nicknamed him after MFI became Lord of the Flies. OS X Hints is griff's site, right? Are there stripes? I don't rightly recall, but you know, I think there are. It also featured spheric, who was one of the few X-Men ('sides the present brothership of course) who had the 'nads to post here more than once or twice. Griff however, did sign up, but we haven't heard hide nor hair from him. I'm sure his own jag takes up all his time, and I can relate. I don't think it's me Brother schneb is absolutely right. Like I said, I go back to OS 9 for file management, because whenever I have to deal with sorting big directories, viewing by different criteria in the same session, OS X completely falls apart on me. Scrolling, dragging and dropping, auto scrolling, all terrible terrible in OS X. Which is why I've been saying that if column view is easier for Unix, great, but then let me sort AT LEAST by the date. I'd prefer all the options, but I'd crap-settle for date. Because to me, that's THE most important. |

That's right. Are there stripes? I think there used to be, but - remarkably - there aren't now. |

Has anybody checked out spymac, which I believe is Ilene's roost now? It's kind of monochrome thematic, but with the piss marketed out of it... like some kooky Mac Noir Superbowl halftime show.
I always thought she looked liked Ingrid Bergman anyway. |

Never heard of it until you pointed it out. I spent a few minutes there and I still can't figure out what it's all about. Is it a news site? Is it a site hocking paid membership for some nefarious benefit? Is it a forums site? No...it appears to be both a floor cleaner and a dessert topping...or none of the above. I don't know. Maybe it's the one, TRUE mac site. You read into it what you want. |

I had seen that site along time ago. I mean like a year or more. At some point it stated please forgive our appearence as we under go some changes. For the life of me I see no difference to the site before during or after the "changes". I am glad to hear that I am not as nitwitted as I thought because I could never figure out what the site was all about other than the fact that I always felt like I should be buying something for perusing around.

I told you it was marketed up pretty good. That desperate, hard-sell, shill site wanabee vibe. Like seeing what kind of a cash cow MFI became and trying to go it one better.
Register. There's a marketeering questionaire right out of the pages of a home appliance warranty registration form. It's really kinda cute. Fast forward a year, when we're selling thalo.net T-shirts and mugs on here. Enjoy it now boys, when we get popular and sell out, it's going to be a whole different show, lol. |
