I recently upgraded my video card to a new PCI ATI Radeon 9200 with 128mb DDR VRAM.

So I went out and purchased Unreal Tourament. I have only played the instant games and have not ventured on line yet but find it playable so far. If I turn on every bell and whistle it will start to stutter. Mostly the shadow affect is a real problem.

One thing I find sucks about Unreal is the fact you must have the cd in the machine to play. This may be why thalo sees so much problems with the game on seabiscuit. The DVD RAM drives are not the best of drives in my experience.

Now with my new vid card I think I may be able to run DoomIII.

Rico, there are usually cracks available to fix this. If there are, I'll try to find a link.

Additional: Couldn't find a crack or patch but apparently the lastest patch for the Windows version dispenses with the need to have the CD inserted. This wasn't the case though with the Mac version. Well, I'd keep my eye out for some type of crack in the future.

No crack needed. Just use Disk Utility and make a Disk Image.

Then mount the image and start the part of the program that is installed on your drive. It will think the CD is mounted.

At least that works for StarCraft.

I can help with Disk Utility details.

Anyway I run StarCraft from a disk image and keep my disc safely stored elsewhere (plus I can play without needing to use my CD on my iBook's battery). Win/win.

Thanks fella's.

Simply brilliant Mighty. The easiest solutions are usually slapping you in the face.

So are you going to give the name number or site you used to get a Thai fiance so we can all join in the fun.

How is the camera. I am sure you know by now that Canon released an updated model.

Sorry dude, I met her in real life in the States the old fashioned way. Stalked her at her work. Big Grin

Well no, I met her at her mom's restaurant. And we hit it off. Pretty basic story if you remove the language issues.

Camera is phenomenal, I really need to try to get some work using it. (Right now I'm in limbo, not positive about my Thai gig yet).

I'm going to set up a site and resume and make a contingency plan for if I gotta stay here (US) for a while longer.

Yeah that update model is the bomb. Has a few features I actually dreamed about. Big Grin

But mine's more than fine. Big Grin

If you need help with the disk image let me know.

Just make sure you click the nested CD (the actual session), the one that probably has underscores. That's the name of the disk as opposed to the drive, above it. You need to keep that name as it is.

So select the disk in the left column, go up to Images:New:Image from DISC_NAME_WHATEVER

Read only, encryption none, name it the same as the physical disc.

Then when you mount it the game should see it as a CD. Should work for all games as far as I know. I've done it for Quake, Starcraft, Marathon...not sure about new games.

So what you are saying we have to hang out in Thai food Restaurants. Razz

I have since made 2 images of the Unreal Tournament disk. The first was a straight image read only. Launching the game with image mounted I get an insert disk dialogue. No go. The second under format I chose DVD/CD master. This did not work either.

Odd thing is the Unreal Tournament disk is a DVD disk. When mounting the DVD/CD master the image mounts with a .cdr ending. It mounts immediately also. No long image mount like with a read-only format

I will research this further to see if there is a solution. I think Toast may create images.

The 10D is a powerful tool. I use a D60 at work. I think the same thing happened for us. We bought the D60 and not too long afterward the 10D was released. The D60 exceeded our expectations so you should be tickled silly with the 10D. I am still sitting on the fence. I really want to go with the Sigma and the Foveon sensor. I was sitting on a dream waiting for PhotoKina to bring something new from them. So far my hopes have been dashed for now.

Hmmm... on the PC, I don't have to have the disk installed.

On Seabiscuit I just played the demo, so that didn't need a disk either.

I am right on the cusp of finishing the single player game. I keep losing that last assault... the space battle.

I was able to use Toast to create a DVD image of the disk.

Works like a charm.

thalo I think the Unreal Tournament disk works for both mac/pc if you were not aware already.

Great. Smile So cool not t need the CD/DVD.

I'd never done it with a DVD actually.

Actually I dabbled in ripping my DVDs to a harddrive for backup. I once had applescript for each movie (that loads the right VIDEO_TS folder) with movie posters for icons. The goal was to make an iTunes for DVDs. But I was lazy and never finished it. Again, it's just nice to have it on a drive, no scratching worries. (I suppose that makes the DVD itself the backup.)

That doesn't appear to be the case, brother Rico. These look like PC exclusive disks to me.

thalo I just checked and you are right. My disk is mac only. I was thrown off because the box it came in listed both PC/MAC requirements. Double checking the disk does say for Macintosh.

It would have been nice.

Mightys disk image solution works great though.

I can not get the "use" command to set to the key I want. In assualt no I mean onslaught I can not teleport over to a diffierent location thru the node thingies.

The key set to "use" just brings up the main menu screen. Leaving me to have to run across large empty space. That really stinks.

On a whole I am pretty awful.

OK, I have been able to kick ass on the single player game for everything but the final space battle. I must be missing something... I can't seem to win that one, no matter what I try. I can't seem to control the ships well, and the defending team is always too unstoppable in the mother ship. So close, yet so far...

The way you are handling the final space battle sounds like how I am playing the rest of the game.

I keep getting things like "yo retard I am on your team".
