I'm just curious what Email-Clients do you use?

Here i am with my new Intel-Book that needs all new software and while Eudora is still my favourite it's quite old and lacks many features (e.g. native Intel Code). The "new" Eudora is just a beta-hell based on Thunderbird, so this is no option for me. I'm unsure... Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Entourage (not free), Opera, etc. ...

So, what are you using?

Mail. And if anyone knows of something better, I'm desperately trying to junk that piece of trash. Too many clients are not able to save the attachments I send from Mail. It somehow embeds them. It's a major pain. Maybe this is technically Microsoft's fault, but I really do want to get rid of Mail. It just doesn't work right.

In Mail, have you tried, Edit>Attachments>Always Send Windows Friendly Attachments?
Then, however the recipient has their mail preferences set-up, I would think that it would show up as an attachment if they chose that option. I'll have to test this myself.

BN, do you use Leotard or Liger?
I think Mail in Leo is an updated version.

Easily avoided. Zip the attachments before dragging into the email. No matter what it is, or how small.

Yeah, I've tried that, Snobby. And it's Windows machines I'm having trouble with. Some show up as attachments, some don't. I can find no rhyme or reason.

Yep, thalo. The zip thing is what I've had to do. The downside of this is that some Windows users are confused by seeing a zipped file. Either way there is too often another phone call and another email when this stuff should "just work." So, you betcha, I'm still looking for an email client that "just works."

BN, do you use Leotard or Liger?

I'm still using Tiggard, smithz. I haven't tried Leotard's version of Mail to see if that correct the problem. I'll have to do that.

I haven't had a problem sending attachments to Windows clients since Leotard.

My biggest problem with mail is that Spotlight breaks. And Mail is where I need it most. There's no way that the program TELLS you when it degrades and you have to rebuild the mailboxes. You just have to do it periodically, when you're searching for crap that you know is there, but spotlight can't find it.

I'm still attached to Classic for one program. But glad to hear it works better in Leotard.

Pulling this thread back from the grave...

Again looking for another email client, Eudora sucks ass and corrupted my inbox and outbox. Don't know how to fix that.

Right now i may switch to Thunderbird, because i like that it's cross-platform. There also is some nostalgia, ah, it's a TINY bit like using the old Netscape Communicator. :-) I just need to figure out how to set fonts right.

Mail is nice and i want to like it, but i can't. It's somehow err.. err.. dunno.

I think Mac Mail has enough advantages, and uses enough of the benefits of OS X, that it's worth it. Don't get me wrong, I've had heartbreaking corruptions in Mail... but that was a long time ago, and I think they've fixed the issues.

The junk mail filtering is pretty slick, and basically it's Mac-like and easy to use. I have a jillion email accounts, and I absolutely LOVE "smart mailboxes" which I organize by client or groups of senders, like my friends.

Plus, I really need to quickly find stuff in emails, and despite some Spotlight problems in the past, Mail usually gets it right. When it doesn't, sometimes I have to trash the prefs and rebuild them, or force Spotlight to re-index.

Smithz Seamonkey has an email client built into the browser. It is like using Netscape Communicator. The foundation of Seamonkey is Netscape Communicator.

Well, thanks Rico. Seamonkey is too much for me and i don't like a package like that or Opera, but i have also checked out Opera Mail.

Anyway, i'm still using Thunderbird. It works. There are still some things i haven't figured out how to set up cool. It's not an elegant piece of software, that's my impression. But works...

If anybody here knows gmail, that's another thing i like. Not the fact, that the email is stored at google, but the functionality. The view of mails, it's quite smart. I haven't figured out how to setup TB to do a similiar view. A thread-view with all mails (yours and the replies from others)

My lazy ass... is lazy.

Smithz I think resistance is futile for you against Seamonkey. It has everything you are looking for in an email client plus it has a little composer app. An address book. The main thing being Seamonkey is Netscape Navigator not this same old same old global IE history browsing apps like Firefox Safari and my old beloved Camino. I think Camino is probably the best Mac Browser for rendering pages properly. I can no longer use Camino as they ruined the dichotomy of browsing by doing away with the Go menu.
