OK, I have to admit, after seeing this, I'd consider getting a game console and buying this game. I love the ambience, the period, and the ease with which the characters seem to move through a rather convincing space.

I haven't been excited about a game since Unreal Tournament. Which I haven't played since I upgraded to Vista.

Watch the trailer and tell me what you think. The character's name is "at-Tayr" which means: "The Bird"... I guess because he flies around.

Here's a stupid question, shows what I know: do different consoles all play the same games? So if you buy an Xbox, will it play this, or do you have to buy a playstation?

That depends. If the game is multi-platform you can get xbox360/ps3/wii/etc.-Versions.
Some titles are exclusive, means they're only available for one specific system.

Assassin's Creed is IMHO multi-platform (xbox360, ps3 and Nintendo DS). Before buying a console i would look out for reviews, because sometimes one version is far better than the other (better graphics, more fluid framerate, faster loading times). Then buy the console which has the best version and have fun.

I wait for Burnout Paradise... Big Grin

Thanks, brother smithz. I see now where it says different platforms. Do you or any of the other brothers have a game system that you'd recommend? I know absolutely nothing about them.

I'd just want to be sure it was going to work with a big plasma HD TV with digital cable and a DVD player (I'd like to find a way to hook it up so I wouldn't have to keep connecting and disconnecting when I wanted to play).

Another game that intriques me is the Simpsons game. I think that one's only for the Xbox.

Burnout paradise looks like a car game... what's the idea behind it? Road rage? Crashing into each other?

I can't really recommend a console due to lack of experience with both, but it's simple: You have to decide between Xbox360 and Ps3, both can be hooked up to your HD-Telly. Both have HDMI-Ports (Xbox got that ports later on, make sure you don't buy an old version) and of course the classic stuff (FBAS, YUV, etc). XBox also offers VGA, PS3 don't.
What might be interesting to you is that Ps3 has as a Blu-Ray Drive and therefore is a HD-Movie-Player. Xbox only has DVD, but can be expanded with an external HD-DVD Drive (eek, clunky)... Xbox360 is louder (more fans and big external power-brick) than Ps3.
I want to add here that the Ps3 Controller currently has NO Rumble-Feature but has til&motion-sensing (called sixaxis). I don't know about the quality of the motion-sensing stuff, some like it, some say it's useless and annoying for most games.
Anyway, Sony already confirmed that a new version called "Dual Shock 3" (including a Rumble-Feature) is coming next Year.
The Xbox-Controller offers a Rumble-Feature, but no motion sensivity.
(Rumble=Force Feedback, means the Controller shakes and vibrates using inbuilt motors etc.)

The Burnout-Series was and is about destruction and racing. In the game are many different varieties of gameplay: Road Rage, Crash Mode, pure Racing, Traffic Attack, etc. It's one of the rare games that offer real destruction of cars, physically almost realistic (ok, a bit overdone, hehe) crashes and last but not least a sensational illusion of speed. Everyone should try that game once. Big Grin Also it's one the few games that runs at STABLE 60 frames per second. Ah, i could go on and on about this...

I personally only got a Ps2 to play Burnout. Addictive.

Maybe you can rent a xbox to check out "Assassins Creed"?

From what I understand, you can't go wrong with any of them. Wii may be the one to take a serious look at because I hear that the emphasis is on game play, not just megapixels and megahertz. And the Wii controlers are apparently a blast.

LOL, to me it looks like the Wii is a way to trick kids into getting EXERCISE instead of vegging and playing video games. Screw that!

That looks like more golf games, tennis, etc. Boring. The only games that really interest me are first person shooters, or birdseye character-driven stuff like assassin's creed.

It reminds me of "Prince of Persia" an early Mac Game, but way more cinematic. I remember having such fun with that one. I really haven't played many games since those days. Marathon. Pod racer. UT. That's about it. I'm usually too busy.

The Wii may be fun and has this cool new controller, but it will never be on par with the graphics of xbox360/PS3. So if you want to play "Assassin's Creed" or any other "next-gen"-game you can forget the Wii.

I'm glad brother Brad brought up gameplay. My big beef with the latter gen of gaming is that the controls seem way more complicated than they have to be. All the stupid button combinations (savaged wonderfully in the last episode of South Park, about Guitar Hero... check it out, there's a game called "Heroin Hero" that looks like a lot of fun, lol).

It's going to be a drag if, in order to make at-Taïr do anything cool, it's gonna be A + B + simultaneous up/tap fire, etc. I hate all that crap. Part of me misses the day of a single joystick and a fire button. I think storylines move along better based on where you GO and what you DO, not what key combinations you can do in rapid succession.

Thalo, this *might* be interesting to you... some reviews of "Assassin's Creed", both xbox and ps3

a few more reviews are always better than one... Smile

PS. Honestly, having some more buttons than one on the controller isn't bad and doesn't mean that you have to learn endless combos and repeating stuff over and over to get along. Sure some games rely on that crap, but many games make good use of the various buttons. One firebutton is not enough for most games, and i grow up using classic joysticks with a lonesome fire-button. Smile

Very interesting, brother, thanks. I'm even more intrigued by the game, it looks right up my alley. I'm also looking forward to seeing how this game "plays" on the political front. I imagine it's going to be fairly politically incorrect to have a game where the main character is a stealthy muslim killer, one of the fabled hashasheen (assassins). I'm pretty sure both muslims and non-muslims will find reasons that's offensive.
